TAMPA - Longtime Republican incumbents Doug Belden and Rob Turner will return to their offices as tax collector and property appraiser, respectively.
Belden easily defeated Beverly Harris, who criticized her former boss for not making enough changes. Belden and his staff recently won the governor's Sterling Award for customer service and spent the past decade streamlining operations.
He plans to lobby the state for more money for driver's license renewals, a move that could net Hillsborough County $1 million a year.
Turner will serve his fourth term as property appraiser. He beat insurance salesman Ken Ayers, who argued the property appraiser needed to do a better job responding to the current market. Turner said he will push for reforms that better reflect the economic system.
