GAINESVILLE It appears backup QB Cameron Newton just can't get a break this season.
Newton, who has struggled with an ankle injury since the start of fall practice, was involved in a car accident Tuesday and is wearing a neck brace.
Newton's injury is not considered serious and he is expected to travel to Vanderbilt.
"It was not his fault," Coach Urban Meyer said. "He got rear-ended by a truck and I didn't really learn the severity until today. He wasn't at practice today, but he'll be fine. He's dealing with some headaches."
Newton has not seen action since Florida's opener against Hawaii.
MR. DEPENDABLE: One of the unsung heroes of the Gators' suddenly dominant defense is LB Ryan Stamper. Stamper, a team captain, has started in four games this season following an injury to Dustin Doe.
Stamper has filled in so well that after Doe returned from injury he has yet to wrestle the job back.
One of the keys to Stamper's success is his versatility. The redshirt junior is the only player that can play all three linebacker positions.
"He's the most reliable player on our defense," defensive coordinator Charlie Strong said. "If you ask any player on our defense - any player on our team - and say Ryan Stamper and they'll say he's the most reliable player on this team."
