MANATEE COUNTY – A Bradenton man was arrested Tuesday after chasing three juveniles in a car and displaying a firearm on school grounds, according to a Manatee County sheriff's report.
Paul J. Mahoney, 51, of the 5200 block of Riverview Boulevard Northwest, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and trespass on school property with a firearm.
Authorities say Mahoney was driving his vehicle recklessly as he chased a car occupied by three boys in the area of 17th Street Northwest and 75th Street Northwest around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.
The boys drove to King Middle School, at 600 75th St. N.W., because they knew a deputy would be there, the report said.
Mahoney followed and exited his vehicle armed with a 9-mm handgun, a deputy reported. Mahoney was also found with another firearm and marijuana.
It is unclear why the chase ensued, but the boys told authorities they were leaving a convenience store when Mahoney began to tail them and yelled, "Boys, you don't want to do this."
