DADE CITY - Republican Brian Corley impressed Pasco County voters during his two-year stint as their supervisor of elections.
They returned him to the office for another four years, making the 38-year-old the first new supervisor elected in Pasco in more than 25 years.
The New Port Richey resident defeated Wesley Chapel attorney Pat Carroll with 56 percent of the vote.
Longtime elections chief Kurt Browning was tapped by Gov. Charlie Crist in 2007 to be Florida's secretary of state. Crist appointed Corley, who had worked as an administrator for Pasco Sheriff Bob White, to replace Browning.
During his tenure, Corley ran five elections and implemented the new optical scan voting system. Tuesday's election went smoothly, except for a few glitches with new voter-identification equipment.
"I'm humbled beyond words," he said. "For me, this is personal. I came to work every day and worked really hard to learn this profession. My goal is to run good elections, and I'm proud of what I've done."
