ZEPHYRHILLS - Voters elected real estate agent Manny Funes to the Zephyrhills City Council on Tuesday.
Funes, 63, pulled more than 1,700 votes to beat Lance Smith and Mark LaMonte.
The Democrat will replace Danny Burgess, who resigned in July to attend Barry University School of Law in Orlando.
A former Miami police officer, Funes moved to the city about two years ago, though he has lived in unincorporated Pasco for the past 25 years.
Funes took 39 percent of the vote. With 1,621 votes, Smith claimed 37 percent of the electorate, while Lamont finished with slightly more than 1,000 votes, for 24 percent.
