TAMPA - A 22-year-old man used his 72-year-old grandfather as a shield when police tried to arrest him this morning for choking his girlfriend, an affidavit states.

Rashad Lee was held without bail this morning at Orient Road Jail. He is charged with three felony offenses: domestic battery, battery on a person older than 65 and resisting an officer with violence.

Police responded to the 400 block of North Hernandez Court shortly after midnight because of a fight between Lee and his girlfriend, an affidavit states. Lee had choked the woman with both hands, the affidavit states.

When officers moved to arrest Lee, Lee grabbed his grandfather out of a chair and "used him as a shield between himself and police," the affidavit states.

No one was seriously injured. Police arrested Lee after getting the grandfather to safety.
