TAMPA - Three men accused of committing a crime spree in Hillsborough and Polk counties in July were indicted today by a federal grand jury.
Jose Jesus Belamontes, 20, Juan Manuel Garcia, 22, and Juan Carlos Hernandez-Cortez, 22, each face several counts of armed robbery, according to the indictment filed today in federal court.
Prosecutors say the three men stole a 2004 Mercedes-Benz from a woman July 18 and robbed a restaurant and convenience stores later that week.
Businesses and individuals in the Plant City and Dover areas were targeted, deputies say.
Garcia is also accused of robbing a Polk County restaurant and threatening employees July 20. He was arrested July 28 and booked into Orient Road Jail on charges of drug possession, concealed firearms and armed burglary, jail records show.
Belamontes and Hernandez-Cortez were arrested July 23 after crashing a stolen vehicle near the Sugar Creek subdivision in Plant City, deputies say. They ran from the crash but were tracked by deputies and dogs.
