KUNG-FU PANDA ***
Resistance is futile. Somewhere deep in your depraved DNA is the trigger that will reduce you to helpless laughter at the sight of an obese, kung fu-loving panda voiced by Jack Black, who goes from lowly noodle shop employee to elite fighter without losing his love handles. The star-packed vocal cast includes Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman and Jackie Chan.
PG, 88 minutes
GET SMART *½
Steve Carell seems a natural for the Don Adams role in this remake of the TV spy spoof from the '60s, given his stock-in-trade on his own show is bungling obliviousness. As Agent 99, Anne Hathaway draws on her proven ability to wear many different outfits. As multigenerational distractions go, it probably beats fighting over the china this holiday season.
PG-13, 110 minutes
TRANSSIBERIAN ***½
In this paranoid thriller, a mismatched American couple (Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer) board the Trans-Siberian railway in Beijing, with stops that range from "bad" to "worse." The fissures in their relationship widen when they meet a more exotic couple (Eduardo Noriega and Kate Mara) and a Russian detective (Ben Kingsley) investigating a murder.
R, 111 minutes
