Lions Might Start Culpepper Sunday

ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The Detroit Lions tried to be coy about how much Daunte Culpepper practiced Wednesday and whether their new quarterback will play just days after signing.

In the locker room, though, it seemed obvious Culpepper is expected to make his Lions debut Sunday against Jacksonville.

"We're throwing him in the fire right away," captain Cory Redding said. "I feel like it's something he can handle because he's been in this league long enough. It's like riding a bike."

Porter Takes Shot At Jaguars WR Jones

MIAMI - First, Joey Porter picked on Brandon Marshall. Now, the Dolphins linebacker is going after Matt Jones.

On a conference call with reporters, Porter said he had no idea how the Jaguars receiver still could be playing despite having a felony cocaine charge this year.

Porter, who called Marshall "soft" and a pouter after Miami's win in Denver last weekend, made his comments after being asked about the NFL's crackdown on big hits deemed illegal and dangerous.

"If I knew the answers, I'd still have 20 more thousand dollars," said Porter, who was fined $20,000 last month for criticizing referee Ed Hochuli after a loss to Houston. "But I'm still trying to figure out how a guy gets caught with cocaine in his car and still plays the game and nothing happens."

GIANTS: Super Bowl hero David Tyree will miss the rest of the season. Tyree, who made "The Catch" in New York's Super Bowl win against the Patriots in February, was placed on injured reserve.

JAGUARS: Coach Jack Del Rio sent linebacker Mike Peterson home, two days after Del Rio questioned his team's chemistry. It was unclear what led to Peterson's dismissal.

RAIDERS: DeAngelo Hall was waived, less than eight months after Oakland traded for the former Pro Bowl cornerback and gave him a $70 million contract.

REDSKINS: Sean Taylor will be inducted into the team's Ring of Fame on Nov. 30 following the first anniversary of the safety's death.
