TAMPA - Three Hillsborough County circuit judges and a local lawyer are among the six finalists for the vacant seat on the Florida 2nd District Court of Appeals.
Judges Anthony K. Black, Marva L. Crenshaw and Richard A. Nielsen, along with lawyer Valeria Hendricks of Davis & Harmon, were among the six names sent to Gov. Charlie Crist by the Judicial Nominating Commission. The other nominees are Arthur S. Hardy of Sarasota and Circuit Judge Jay B. Rosman of Fort Myers.
The vacancy was created when Crist appointed 2nd District Judge Charles Canady to the Florida Supreme Court.
The commission sought applications from lawyers across the district, which hears appeals from Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties.
Applicants had to be members of the Florida Bar for the past 10 years, registered voters and residents in the district at the time of assuming office.
