TAMPA - Police are searching for a man involved in a robbery that turned fatal at Tuscany Pointe Apartments after the victim fought back, investigators said.
The robbery victim, Anthony Valez, 21, fatally shot one of the robbers during a struggle, Tampa police said. Valez was not seriously hurt.
About 11 p.m. Thursday, two men arrived at Valez's apartment at 3350 W. Hillsborough Ave. They tied him up and robbed him, police said.
Valez broke free and wrested a gun away from one of the men. Valez shot one of the men and the other, Ramon Antonio Varela, took off, police said. Valera, 34, has no known address.
Police won't release the identity of the dead man until his family is notified.
Police now have a warrant for Varela's arrest on charges of murder, armed robbery with a firearm and kidnapping.
Police described Valera as 5 feet 7 inches tall with a shaved head and goatee. He has a tattoo of "Domingo" on his forearm and a tattoo across his stomach. He was last seen wearing bluejeans and a white shirt.
He frequents adult entertainment establishments, police say.
