GO FISHING is a look at the area fishing scene through the eyes of local charter boat captains and fishing guides. Today: Mike Anderson, right, with "Reel Animals" partner Billy Nobles.

This week, Billy and I enjoyed a couple of days fishing in fresh spots. We started our week filming a couple of episodes of our "Reel Animals" show.

Our first show was a trip out of Englewood with captain Jeff Totten. We ventured out into the Gulf on Monday morning for some great tripletail and Spanish mackerel action. It took us some time, but we finally found a crab trap buoy holding a couple of nice 8- to 10-pound tripletails. We could only manage to get one of them to eat, and it was Billy who got to enjoy the early action. Totten prefers to use live, small greenbacks to entice the tripletails.

We then went to catching big Spanish mackerel as fast as we could get baits in the water. It made for an awesome morning.

We spent our afternoon with captain Mike Wise, who put us on the most unbelievable pompano bite I have been on. We caught 14- to 17-inch pompano as fast as we could get our Doc's Goofy jigs in the water for at least two hours.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we each ran our charters out of Placida boat ramp in Charlotte Harbor. My clients had an excellent time catching big redfish, speckled trout - which have seemed to come back strong there - snook and jacks. I spent most of my time working the potholes in Bull and Turtle bays. Billy took his clients offshore to some great grouper and snapper fishing, and they also caught several big kingfish.

The fishing is great on Tampa Bay right now, but it was nice to get in a little travel fishing.

Catch captains Billy Nobles and Mike Anderson on the "Reel Animals Fishing Show" on Saturdays from 6:30-7 a.m. and Sundays from 11-11:30 a.m. on WFLA, Channel 8, and on Sundays from 8-10 a.m. on WWBA, 1040 AM. To book a charter, call 1-866-GAMEFISH or visit www.reelanimalsfishing
