ASHBURN, Va. - DeAngelo Hall didn't stay unemployed for long.
Less than one day after clearing waivers, the cornerback agreed Friday to a one-year contract with the Washington Redskins.
"He's excited to be coming home, he's a Virginia Tech guy," said his agent, Joel Segal.
Hall should suit up for Washington's next game, on Nov. 16 against Dallas. The Redskins, who have had injury problems in the secondary, have a bye this week.
Hall was released by Oakland earlier this week after playing just eight games with the Raiders. Oakland acquired Hall in the offseason for two draft picks, then signed him to a seven-year, $70 million contract. But he lasted only a half-season with the Raiders, and several players expressed disappointment that he was released.
In his eight games in Oakland, Hall was beaten 40 times for 552 yards on 66 passes thrown his way, according to data compiled by STATS. He gave up more yards than any defender this season and was tied for third-worst in catches allowed.
BEARS: Quarterback Kyle Orton practiced Friday for the first time since spraining his right ankle, but an appearance in Sunday's game against the Titans appears unlikely.
BILLS: Cornerback Ashton Youboty was placed on season-ending injured reserve Friday with a foot injury, further depleting Buffalo's already banged-up defense. Fourth-year linebacker Teddy Lehman, who was released by Detroit this summer, was signed to fill Youboty's roster spot.
BRONCOS: Denver lost its third tailback in four days Friday when it was confirmed that rookie Ryan Torain tore a ligament in his left knee and is done for the season.
DOLPHINS: Linebacker Joey Porter offered an apology Friday to Jacksonville receiver Matt Jones but stood by his complaint about NFL fines and suspensions.
During a national conference call Wednesday, Porter questioned how Jones could be playing despite a felony cocaine charge against him earlier this year. Jones angrily responded, saying, "Is Joey Porter the commissioner?"
"Matt, I'm sorry to bring you up in that," Porter told reporters Friday. "I apologize for using you, but you were just like the example that was clear to everybody. ... What do you get fined for? So what is good and what's not good? I'm still trying to figure that out."
JAGUARS: Linebacker Mike Peterson rejoined Jacksonville on Friday, going through practice, attending meetings and trying to move on from what he called a rough couple of days.
It remained unclear whether the team's top tackler and defensive captain would return to the starting lineup Sunday at Detroit.
Coach Jack Del Rio said Peterson's status was "to be determined."
Del Rio sent Peterson home Wednesday as punishment for speaking out during a team meeting. Peterson returned to the complex Thursday, but was sent home again.
LIONS: Starting quarterback Dan Orlovsky says he may need thumb surgery for two fractures and a torn ligament.
RAMS: Coach Jim Haslett made former Bucs running back Kenneth Darby the starter for Sunday's game against the Jets. Steven Jackson will sit as he continues to recover from a quadriceps injury suffered against Dallas on Oct. 19.
RAVENS: Cornerback Chris McAlister will have season-ending surgery on his damaged right knee and will be placed on injured reserve.
SEAHAWKS: Finally, some good injury news for battered Seattle. Wide receiver Deion Branch practiced with the first-team offense and has a chance to play Sunday. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was finally back on the practice field, too, putting him back on track to play next week.
