THE DIFFERENCE: Two big pass plays by Je'Twan Smith - an opening-drive 55-yard touchdown to John Hicks and a second-quarter 37-yarder to David Claypool that set up the second touchdown - and a defense that stifled a potent Riverview running game led to the shutout victory.
GAME NOTES: With the win, Durant, Riverview and Sarasota are tied for second in Class 6A-District 6 and must play tiebreaking shortened games Monday at Durant to determine who finishes second in the district. ... During the previous two weeks, Riverview had rushed for 236 yards and 286 yards, but Durant held the team to 60 rushing yards. ... Durant had lost linebackers Ruben Garcia and Billy Whitcomb in the team's last game two weeks ago and they were replaced by running backs Ryan Rice and Marshon Shoemake for this game. ... Cougars quarterback Smith finished the game with six completions in 11 attempts for 130 yards, two TDs and one interception. ... Durant running back Antonio Morris had a 48-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He finished with 78 yards.
STAT OF THE GAME: Durant's defense held Riverview to 80 yards of offense while forcing three Riverview fumbles, two of which the Cougars recovered.
