OCALA - Senior quarterback Aaron Despaw threw for 251 yards and four touchdowns Friday night to lead Faith Baptist Christian (7-2) to a 32-10 victory against Haines City Landmark Christian to win the Florida Christian Conference state championship.

Despaw was named the game's MVP.

Faith Baptist, seeded third and in its first season of 11-man football, was also led by wide receiver Eldrith Smith, who had 111 yards and two touchdowns receiving, and Vincent Strachan, who had 80 yards receiving and added a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown.

LAKE WALES - Running back Micah Lewis returned a kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown and added a rushing touchdown to lead Cambridge Christian (2-8).

Cambridge quarterback Hayden Kelley had touchdown passes of 80 and 25 yards to help out in the rout.

MULBERRY 47,

LENNARD 7

MULBERRY - Jermaine West rushed for three touchdowns, while Jerrell Carr had two in a 26-point fourth quarter as the Panthers clinched the Class 2A-District 5 runner-up spot with the victory.

Mulberry is 4-1 in the district and 6-4 overall, while Lennard fell to 2-3, 5-5.

LAKELAND 21,

KISSIMMEE OSCEOLA 14

KISSIMMEE - Javares McRoy scored on a 30-yard pass from Jarred Haggins for the deciding touchdown as the Dreadnaughts won the Class 5A-Dictrict 8 title.

It was the second time in the game Haggins and McRoy had connected for a TD. McRoy caught a 9-yard score in the second quarter that erased a 7-0 deficit. Lakeland took a 14-7 halftime lead before Osceola tied it in the third quarter.

SEBRING 14,

AVON PARK 13

SEBRING - Senior JC Howard didn't catch a pass until the second half, but the Blue Streak receiver made it count, as he hauled in a 13-yard bootleg pass from quarterback Matt Grubb for the winning touchdown in a come-from-behind victory over rival Avon Park in their 87th meeting at Joe Franza Stadium.

With Sebring down 13-7 and forced to punt with seven minutes left in the game, Brad Pryce recovered a fumble by Avon Park quarterback Albert Moses at midfield.

A pass interference call two plays later by Avon Park put Sebring on the doorstep at the Red Devils 37. Grubb used a succession of bootleg passes to get to the 13-yard line.

But the Red Devils looked to have the stop on fourth-and-10, but Grubb rolled away from the pass rush to complete strike to Howard for the score.

Sebring improves to 2-7 on the season, while Avon Park drops to 2-7 with both teams having one game to play.

Grubb went 15-for-29 with 129 yards along with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions, as an aggressive pass rush by the Red Devils harassed the sophomore QB.

Avon Park's Virgil Cooper had a pair of touchdowns called back on holding penalties but scored on a 34-yard touchdown strike by Moses to give the Red Devils a six-point advantage early in the third quarter.
