Chicken of the Sea Healthy Selections, Light and Albacore

Available at major grocers; 99 cents to $1.59 for 3-ounce pouch

The pitch: "The convenient shelf-stable seafood is an excellent source of much-needed nutrients, such as heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, protein and vitamin D.

The skinny: Cans of tuna fish are an American staple that have evolved from their once heavy, oil-packed state. Still, I've never been a fan of water-packed cans of tuna that seem to sit on my shelf like the last kid picked to play kickball.

The pre-drained tuna pouches being introduced by Chicken of the Sea and others appear to improve the situation. The pouches are less messy and keep the fish flavor at the forefront. I don't like mayonnaise, and these dry pouches allow me to fix a sandwich or salad that doesn't beg to cover up the oil or watery residue.

That said, the albacore and light Healthy Selection tunas don't taste much different from comparable brands in pouches. And their nutritional value is similar to the competition. Cans of all kinds seem to be the loser in this match.

Purell Cucumber Melon Instant Hand Sanitizer with Moisturizers

Available at most drugstores; $2.59 for 2 ounces

The pitch: "Clean sensation formula with vitamin-infused vanishing beads and moisturizers."

The skinny: To me, hand sanitizer is as important of a car accessory as the CD player. I can't pump gas or order at a drive-through restaurant without grabbing a bottle and freshening up. I love feeling clean, but I also cringe at the stinging, dry feeling I get each time I use it. The kids hate it, too.

The moisturizing abilities of Purell's Purifying Essentials hand sanitizer actually work. It didn't sting during several test runs and didn't leave a greasy lotion-like residue on my hands. That's especially important as I use the sanitizer at times when I need a good grip; I'd hate for my hands to slip on the steering wheel.

The $2.59 price tag is reasonable when compared to other brand-name products. But it's still cheaper to grab store brands at a fraction of the price.
