Brown Unstoppable

Published: November 9, 2008

TALLAHASSEE - It was evident from practically the first snap.

The Clemson offensive tackles were not going to be able to block Florida State defensive end Everette Brown.

The North Carolina native was a nightmare for the Tigers' offensive line in the Seminoles' 41-27 win Saturday.

The redshirt junior finished with three sacks of Clemson's Cullen Harper and a handful of quarterback pressures as well - one of which led to Neefy Moffett's first-quarter interception return for a touchdown.

"I knew I could beat those guys with speed," Brown said. "And speed kills."

He beat them using just about everything Saturday - speed rushes, bull rushes, spin moves inside.

"I'm not the typical D-end - you know, the big guy," Brown said. "And I had to use my agility and my quickness."

All of it was on full display against Clemson's overmatched tackles.

It was the second time in three games Brown tallied three sacks. He now has nine on the season, tied for the ACC lead, and 15 tackles-for-loss, which leads the ACC and is one of the top marks in the country.

Along the way, he's even started to impress his defensive coordinator.

"He was playing like those old defensive ends that we used to play with," Mickey Andrews said of the redshirt junior. "And he's becoming one."

Brown now ranks 13th on the school's all-time list for single-season sacks and his 40 career tackles-for-loss are sixth on the all-time list.

More importantly to Brown, however, he and his defensive mates have started making a habit of constantly harassing opposing quarterbacks.

The Seminoles didn't knock Harper out of the game Saturday - like they did with Virginia Tech's Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon and Georgia Tech's Josh Nesbitt - but they slammed him into the ground repeatedly.

They made sure he didn't have a fun day in Doak Campbell Stadium.

"As long as a flag isn't thrown, it's all clean," Brown said. "We just try to let them know we're here and try to make a presence in the backfield."
