UCF Slumps To Loss; B-CU, FAMU Prevail

ORLANDO - Austin Davis' 8-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter sealed Southern Mississippi's 17-6 victory over Central Florida on Saturday.

Davis' third-quarter touchdown run capped a Southern Miss drive that included three third-down conversions and took nearly nine minutes.

Davis completed 21 of 34 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown, also rushing for 73 yards and the final score for the Golden Eagles (4-6, 2-4 Conference USA).

Rob Calabrese completed 12 of 30 passes for 141 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for the Golden Knights (2-7, 1-4).

The Golden Eagles outgained the Golden Knights 338-208, and capitalized on a pair of UCF turnovers to seal the victory.

Southern Miss led 7-6 at the half after Davis connected with DeAndre Brown for a 5-yard score. It was Brown's 11th touchdown reception of the year.

UCF scored on its first drive, when Calabrese connected with Khymest Williams for a 3-yard touchdown. The touchdown capped a 91-yard drive, UCF's longest drive of the year.

BETHUNE-COOKMAN 17,

HAMPTON 6

HAMPTON, Va. - Brian Sumlar rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown to lead Bethune-Cookman to a victory over Hampton.

Sumlar scored on an 1-yard run in the second quarter and McKinson Souverain added an 8-yard run in the third quarter to lift Bethune-Cookman (7-2, 4-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
Souverain rushed for 88 yards and passed for 64.

LaMarcus Coker led Hampton (5-4, 4-2) with 106 yards on 21 carries. Herbert Bynes was 15 of 34 for 178 yards but was sacked six times.

Matt McCutcheon kicked field goals of 45 and 35 yards for Bethune-Cookman and Carlo Turavani made field goals of 20 and 22 yards for Hampton.

FLORIDA A&M 45,

N. CAROLINA A&T 7

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Curtis Pulley threw three touchdown passes to lead Florida A&M to a win against North Carolina A&T.

Pulley completed 14 of 28 passes for 201 yards for the Rattlers (7-3, The Rattlers (7-3, 3-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) outgained the Aggies (3-8, 1-6) 283-102, and capitalized on four turnovers en route to the victory.

The Aggies took a 7-0 lead in first quarter when Carlton Fears scored on a 5-yard run.

But Curtis Pulley, who was 14 of 28 for 201 yards, connected with Adrian Smith on a 17-yard score and Kevin Elliott on a 30-yard pass to put the Rattlers ahead 14-7 in the first.

LeRoy Vann, who totaled 108 punt return yards, scored on a 61-yard punt return in the second. A 1-yard rushing score by Lonvontae Page to give Florida A&M a 28-7 lead at halftime.

FLORIDA ATLANTIC 46,

NORTH TEXAS 13

FORT LAUDERDALE - Rusty Smith threw four touchdown passes as Florida Atlantic routed North Texas.

It was the third straight win for the Owls (4-5, 2-2 Sun Belt Conference), who are 5-0 all-time against the Mean Green (1-9, 0-5).

Smith was 15-for-23 for 237 yards and one interception before giving way to backup Jeff VanCamp in the third quarter. Smith threw touchdown passes of 13 and 16 yards to Cortez Gent in the first half, and hit Willie Rose and DiIvory Edgecomb for scores of 3 and 57 yards in the third quarter.

North Texas' Giovanni Vizza was 13 of 23 for 125 yards and two interceptions.

FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL 22,

ARKANSAS STATE 21

MIAMI - T.Y. Hilton caught a school record 199 yards and threw the game-deciding touchdown with 2:04 left to lift Florida International to a win over Arkansas State.

Hilton's pass came off a broken play in which he fumbled on a reverse call, picked up the ball, scrambled and launched a wobbly pass to Junior Mertile for a 38-yard touchdown to for the Golden Panthers (4-5, 3-2 Sun Belt Conference).

Dustin Rivest, who put Florida International ahead with the extra point, also set the school's single-game record with five field goals of 42, 33, 43, 35, and 37 yards.
