Starting at dawn, the competitors swam, ran, biked - and tied up traffic - around Clearwater Beach.
The Foster Grant Ironman World Championship brought nearly 1,500 of the world's best triathletes to the city Saturday. Crowds watched them start the day at sunrise with a swim, and then encouraged them on as they snaked along streets biking and running.
Even at 70.3 miles, the distance of this competition is only half that of the more established Ironman competition of 140.6 miles.
