TAMPA - When a Hillsborough County sheriff's sergeant tried to pull over a 1994 Isuzu driven by Duane Linscott in east Tampa Sunday night, mayhem ensued.
The sergeant says Linscott tried to cause him to crash, hit him in the face, caused a different crash and took a deputy's Taser.
According to a criminal arrest affidavit:
Before 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Linscott, 26, of Seffner, locked up his truck's brakes, trying to disable the sergeant's patrol car. To avoid a crash, the sergeant moved his patrol car into the left lane.
Linscott's pickup swerved at the sergeant's patrol car, forcing it off the road.
The pickup then traveled on Williams Road to Harney Road and rode through a four-way stop sign. It headed west and ran a red light at Harney and U.S. 301, along with several other red lights.
Then the pickup turned left into Riverchase Apartments in Temple Terrace, where it sideswiped a minivan. It continued into the apartment complex, and while it was still moving, Linscott hopped out.
The pickup struck a tree and stopped.
The sergeant tailing Linscott approached him, and Linscott hit the sergeant's face. Linscott failed to obey commands to stop and punched, kicked and pushed at deputies.
Linscott took one deputy's Taser.
Linscott was arrested about 8:35 p.m. In his pants, he had marijuana and a metal pipe with marijuana residue.
Deputies also determined Linscott had been driving on a suspended Alaska license.
Linscott was charged with three counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and obstructing or opposing an officer with violence.
He also faces one count each of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing to elude, depriving an officer of a means of protection, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, violating his probation and driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license.
Linscott remains in Orient Road Jail today. No bail has been set.
