IRA KAUFMAN'S POWER RANKINGS

1. Giants. They run when they want to run and throw when they want to throw.

2. Titans. If they win Sunday at Jacksonville, look out.

3. Ravens. They top the AFC in both rushing and rushing defense.

4. Bucs. Perfect home mark will be tested by the Vikings.

5. Panthers. Julius Peppers has returned - and so has this defense.

6. Steelers. Roethlisberger's passes lack the usual zip.

7. Jets. This offensive line is starting to crank it up.

8. Cardinals. Ken Whisenhunt has instilled some toughness.

9. Redskins. They commit few turnovers and register few takeaways.

10. Falcons. NFL's No. 2 ground game takes pressure off Ryan.

11. Patriots. Hope to cool off the Jets on Thursday night.

12. Colts. You can see the parts starting to come together.

13. Bears. A vivid reminder why Grossman is a backup.

14. Vikings. Talented but sloppy, especially on the road.

15. Eagles. Those NFC wild-card tiebreakers don't bode well.

16. Packers. This defense really misses CB Al Harris.

17. Cowboys. Romo is back, but what about an underachieving defense?

18. Dolphins. Talk about ball security ... only seven giveaways in nine games.

19. Jaguars. A win against Tennessee would be a powerful springboard.

20. Chargers. Awful pass defense can't be camouflaged.

21. Broncos. Same here.

22. Saints. Let's make it a hat trick.

23. Bills. That 0-3 mark in the division will haunt them.

24. Browns. Can't stop anyone down the stretch.

25. Texans. Beating themselves with a flurry of turnovers.

26. Seahawks. When Hasselbeck left, he took the offense with him.

27. 49ers. Should flex some muscles against the Rams.

28. Chiefs. Still playing hard for Herm Edwards.

29. Raiders. Just made Jake Delhomme look like an amateur - and still lost.

30. Rams. Must draft or sign a few more signature defensive players.

31. Bengals. With this talent at WR, 11 TDs in nine games is a disgrace.

32. Lions. Difficult to see how they will avoid 0-16.
