TAMPA - A 45-year-old man was arrested early this morning, accused of threatening an employee of a sports bar and almost ramming a deputy's patrol car, according to a criminal arrest affidavit.
Steven Craig Wentworth, of 1712 Comanche Ave., Tampa, was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
This is what happened about 1:35 a.m., according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit:
Deputies responded to an emergency call at PJ's Sports Bar & Grill, 8603 N. Dale Mabry Highway, where an employee told them Wentworth threatened her with a beer bottle. Wentworth left the bar in a white Saturn, and deputies spotted the car a few minutes later.
When deputies tried to block the car, the Saturn nearly hit the patrol car head-on. The Saturn continued on northbound Dale Mabry and deputies followed. The car stopped on Busch Boulevard just west of Himes Boulevard and deputies arrested Wentworth.
A crack pipe was found in Wentworth's pocket after he was arrested, according to the sheriff's office.
Wentworth is being held tonight on $10,500 bail at Orient Road Jail.
