TALLAHASSEE - A kickoff time of 7:45 p.m for the Florida State-Maryland game on Nov. 22 will give Myron Rolle a fighting chance to participate in at least part of that potentially critical Atlantic Division matchup in College Park and also attend the announcement of this year's Rhodes Scholarship recipients in Birmingham, Ala.
Rolle, a starting safety, is a finalist for the prestigious scholarship and will go through interviews that Saturday. The winners will be announced at 6 p.m. The NCAA has given FSU permission to whisk Rolle to the FSU-Maryland game by private plane or charter.
"I said he's got to go," FSU coach Bobby Bowden said of the Rhodes Scholarship interviews. "That's once in a lifetime. Whatever's he got to do, he's got to do. You cannot take that opportunity away from a man. I just hope he wins it. We'll just have to do the best we can and hope he can get there to the Maryland game some."
SPECIAL HONORS: Sophomore OL Rodney Hudson was among a trio of Seminoles who earned ACC honors for their play against Clemson. K/P Graham Gano was named special teams player of the week and Neefy Moffett was co-defensive lineman of the week.
