A pedestrian died Tuesday night after she was struck by two cars on 66th Street North in St. Petersburg, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
One of the cars that hit the pedestrian, described as a white four-door Honda Civic, left the scene after the fatal crash, troopers say.
This is what happened about 7:50 p.m. according to the highway patrol:
Kryss Leitson, 45, of St. Petersburg, was walking east across 66th Street North and walked into the path of a 2007 KIA sport utility vehicle driven by Helen Cortez Ewin.
Ewin was not able to avoid colliding with Leitson and struck her. The impact threw Leitson over the KIA and she landed in the center lane of 66th Street. The Honda Civic struck Leitson a split second later and dragged her about 50 feet.
Ewin, 57, of Kenneth City, was not hurt.
The driver of the Civic stopped momentarily after the crash then drove away.
Leitson was taken to St. Petersburg General Hospital where she died from her injuries.
Anyone with information on the crash can call Florida Highway Patrol Cpl. Doug Guy at (813) 631-4020.
