Police believe George Legrande, of 1802 E. 29th Ave., asked a 54-year-old Tampa man for a ride about 3:40 a.m., and the man agreed, an arrest report states. Legrande and the man walked to the man's gold 1988 Toyota Camry near Spruce Street and Willow Avenue, and the man opened his driver's side door and put a he key in the ignition.
That's when Legrande reached in the Toyota, grabbed the man and forced him out, according to the report.
Less than a half-hour after the carjacking, officers stopped Legrande at 4:07 a.m. near Seventh Avenue and Scott Street.
During the arrest, investigators learned that Legrande's driver's license had been suspended. They also found a marijuana cigarette behind his right ear and two pieces of cocaine in a pill bottle in his pants pocket, according to a criminal arrest affidavit.
He was arrested and charged with carjacking, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license.
The victim told police he had never seen Legrande before. No one was hurt.
