TAMPA - Deanne Roberts, founder of Tampa-based Roberts Communications and a well-known leader in civic activities, has renamed the firm ChappellRoberts and has promoted business partner Colleen Chappell to president.
Roberts, 56, will remain at the company as chairman.
"I'll lead our issues management practice, which focuses on public policy issues," Roberts said in a news release "I will also stay involved in the community and pursue my passion of economic development."
The marketing, advertising and public relations firm with an office in Ybor City employs 25. It began in 1978.
The staff has doubled in size since Chappell joined Roberts Communications in 2002 as vice president, after working in marketing and business sales with Verizon Wireless.
Roberts, a University of South Florida graduate, is past chairman of Leadership Florida, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and Tampa's Creative Industries Council. She is a founder and member of the board of directors of CreativeTampaBay. She also serves on the Tampa Bay Partnership's Vision 21 Steering Committee and is on the board of advisors for the USF Center for Entrepreneurship.
Over the years, she has contributed to candidates in several state races – a total of $4,535. The recipients, primarily Democrats, included Kathy Castor, Jim Davis, Sandra Murman, Bill McBride, Elizabeth Kalashian, Alex Sink, Robert Shimberg and Bob Henriquez.
In local elections, she has contributed a total of $4,305 to Linda Saul-Sena, Thomas Scott, John Dingfelder, Pam Iorio, Mary Mulhern, Bob Buckhorn, Mark Sharpe, Jan Platt, Ben Wacksman and Gwen Miller.
