TAMPA - Former Department of Children and Families spokesman Al Zimmerman is set to go on trial Jan. 26 on child pornography charges.
U.S. District Judge Susan Bucklew scheduled a trial this morning after Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen Murphy-Davis said she would like to tell the seven victims in the case a definitive trial date.
Murphy-Davis said one of the victims is in the military.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty. He was arrested in February and accused of making sexually explicit photos and videos of two boys who were 16 at the time. Authorities said he met one of the boys through his job.
More recently, federal prosecutors said investigators had identified five new victims. A new indictment was handed up, adding charges of receiving child pornography, possessing child pornography and obstruction of justice.
A federal prosecutor has said Zimmerman often used his work computer to correspond by e-mail with the first two victims identified. Zimmerman told authorities he didn't know the boys were underage.
