PALM HARBOR - The PGA Tour has unveiled its 2009 schedule with the Transitions Championship set for March 19-22 at Innisbrook Resort.
The annual event played on Innisbrook's Copperhead Course will be the third stop in the Florida Swing, following the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens on March 5-8, and the WGC-CA Championship at Doral on March 12-15.
After passing through the Tampa Bay area, the tour moves to Orlando for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Despite tough economic times, the schedule features 25 tournaments offering at least $6 million in prize money.
The Innisbrook stop will be the first year of a six-year sponsorship agreement with Transitions Optical Inc., a Pinellas Park company.
The Masters, the year's first major championship, will be played at Augusta National on April 9-12. The U.S. Open at Bethpage Black in New York is set for June 18-21, the British Open at Turnberry in Scotland is July 16-19 and the final major of the year, the PGA Championship, will be at Hazeltine (Chaska, Minn.) on Aug. 13-16.
