CLEARWATER - Travelers at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport this morning may notice some additional activity in the form of a full-scale emergency preparedness exercise scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m and end by noon.
More than 100 participants will be involved in a simulated aircraft explosion involving a U.S. Coast Guard C-130 Hercules aircraft in a Coast Guard hangar at the airport.
Multiple agencies, including the Coast Guard, airport rescue and firefighting personnel, airport operations, Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control, the American Red Cross and local emergency and medical directors services are among the organizations involved.
