TAMPA - Taylor Baccili held up her hand with reverence.

"This is my Mike Alstott hand," the 9-year-old said.

Taylor, a fourth-grader, and the former Buccaneer exchanged high-fives Wednesday at Bryant Elementary School after Alstott spoke to her class.

Alstott teamed up with Waste Management to promote recycling. Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee and Sarasota counties this month started accepting cartons -- such as those from milk, juice and broth - along with other recyclables. Tampa already accepts those cartons.

Alstott encouraged students to spread the word: "You have to tell all of your families, all of your neighbors, all your friends in our community to do what?"

"Recycle," the children yelled.

Get In The Spirit At High School

PLANT CITY - The community is invited to join in on Friday as the Plant City High Raiders celebrate their homecoming and final football game of the season.

The Spirit Rally, billed as a tailgate party without the cars, is from 5 to 7 p.m. on the tennis courts near Raider Stadium. The event includes food, games and drawings, organizer Dianna Lott said.

The rally celebrates homecoming and the reopening of the stadium after the installation of new turf. The grass took longer than expected to take root, forcing the team to play most games on the road this year. Friday's game against Freedom High is only the second home game of the season for the Raiders.

For information on the rally, contact Lott at (813) 267-3119 or dilott@zenosolutions.com.
