TAMPA - A jury is deliberating today in the case of a man accused of orchestrating attacks on his parents-in-law because they cut him off financially.
Alex Shevgert is accused of hiring men to attack Grigori and Galina Komissarchuk, who both suffered skull fractures. The couple were attacked three times in separate incidents, two in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, N.Y., and one in their home in Sarasota.
Shevgert testified that he is innocent and that he was set up by another man who has pleaded guilty in the attacks and testified against Shevgert. Shevgert says he was being blackmailed by Larik Cholak, who testified that Shevgert hired him to be the middleman and driver in two of the attacks. The driver in the third attack, Sergey Zub, has also pleaded guilty and testified against Shevgert.
Shevgert's wife, Emelia, testified she doesn't believe her husband attacked her parents.
The Shevgerts have two children.
