Shannon Schenck

SPRING HILL - A man went to the emergency room Wednesday after a glass pipe commonly used for smoking drugs broke inside his rectum on the way to jail, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy pulled over Shannon Schenck, 36, about 1 a.m. on Mariner Boulevard after noticing the tag light was out on his Ford pickup. Schenck was arrested after giving the deputy a driver's license with the last three numbers erased and filled in with blue ink, an arrest report shows.

On the way to the jail, things got weird. Here's what the report says:

The deputy noticed Schenck was walking with his knees together, like he was hiding something in his groin. After doing a more thorough search over Schenck's clothing, the deputy felt something hard near Schenck's buttocks, but Schenck wouldn't say what it was.

While driving to the jail, Schenck started sweating profusely and appeared to be "in a lot of discomfort," according to the report. About six miles from the jail, the deputy heard what sounded like glass banging against metal, so he pulled over to check on Schenck.

That's when the deputy saw the eight-inch glass pipe, which by then was in Schenck's waistband

Schenck was taken to the hospital, where the staff X-rayed his rectum to make sure he wasn't hiding anything else. After being medically cleared, he was booked on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a fictitious identification. He was being held without bail Thursday night at the Hernando County Jail.
