PALMETTO - Two armed home intruders held a couple at gunpoint and made off with cash early this morning, according to Manatee County deputies. No shots were fired and no one was injured.
The robbery occurred at 1 a.m. today at 1712 Third Ave. W. in the home of Van Bernard Dunbar Jr., 23, and his wife, Carla, 28, according to deputies.
Both intruders were armed with handguns, deputies said. They pushed in the screen of the porch door and kicked in the front door, and once inside, they awoke the victims and demanded money, authorities said. After being handed an undisclosed amount of cash, they fled, deputies said.
One suspect was described as being black, in his 20s about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He wore a bandana on top of his head and a second bandana over his face. He also wore gloves, black clothes and a white, mesh shirt under a T-shirt. He had tattoos on his arm and was armed with a .45-caliber handgun.
The second man was 5 feet 5 inches tall with a thin build. He was black and in his 20s and wore gloves and a bandana over his face. He also wore black clothes and wielded a 9 mm handgun.
