GAINESVILLE - Florida coach Urban Meyer confirmed that OL Carl Johnson would play Saturday against South Carolina.

Johnson suffered an MCL sprain in the Gators' 42-14 win against Vanderbilt on Saturday.

"Carl Johnson that was a pleasant surprise," Meyer said. "We thought we might have lost him for this game but he practiced full go today."

HUNTER MAY REDSHIRT: Freshman DL Omar Hunter was expected to be a key contributor this season, but a back injury he suffered during summer workouts kept him from contributing in the way he was expected to.

Now it is looking as if Hunter may redshirt this season.

"I think now, yeah, but there's a lot of football left," Meyer said. "Those are decisions you can make when you're a championship-level team."

TEBOW A FAN OF SPURRIER: Steve Spurrier's decision to coach at South Carolina has transformed the matchup between the Gators and Gamecocks from just another SEC game to a legitimate rivalry.

It also begs the question of how QB Tim Tebow, a lifelong Gators fan, would have liked playing for Spurrier.

"I have thought about it," Tebow said. "He's a great coach and I think he does a good job with his quarterbacks and teaches his quarterbacks well.

"He gives his team a chance to win."
