PLANT CITY - A local 2-year-old was one of five finalists in a contest to appear on the November cover of Parents magazine.

Camden Bates wasn't the winner, but as part of the selection process the magazine flew him and his parents, Jon and Brittany Bates, to New York for a photo shoot. His mother, a stay-at-home mom and former Chamberlin High math teacher, sent in a photo she took with his entry.

Camden was one of five finalists from more than 85,000 entries.

"Although it was fun, we have no intention of turning into stage parents and this may be the only time we ever do such a thing," Brittany Bates said.
