SEFFNER - Three dogs died during a fire that destroyed a two-story home in Seffner this morning.
Six adults and six children also lived in the five-bedroom home, according to the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Three more people lived in other buildings on the property. Those buildings were not damaged during the fire, but their electricity supply came from the main house. So the fire displaced them, too.
No one was hurt in the fire, and no other homes were damaged.
The Red Cross is providing temporary housing in a hotel for the residents. The entire house, except for two fireplaces and chimneys, was completely burned. The residents lost all of their belongings, the Red Cross said.
Ten people were in the home sleeping when the fire started. The rest of the group had left early this morning to go fishing, according to the Red Cross.
The 4,000 square-foot building, at 959 Kingsway Road, required 12 fire rescue units and more than 30 firefighters to fight the blaze, according to Hillsborough County Fire spokesman Ray Yeakley. It took about an hour to get the fire under control, he said.
The Red Cross gave the 12 people who lived in the main house money to buy new clothes and food and is also helping the three people who lived in the outlying buildings.
Firefighters are still investigating what caused the fire.
