TAMPA - Tampa Prep's Wes Sever scored 12 minutes into the second half to answer Cory Anderson's goal for host Jesuit as the two county powers played to a 1-1 draw at Corral Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Anderson gave Jesuit the lead eight minutes into the second half. The Tigers' Keith Sierra swung a corner into the penalty area from the left, finding Anderson who had a free header at the far post.
The Terrapins almost tied the game less than a minute later, as a misjudgment on a defensive header put Zack Hebert in behind his defender. With Jesuit goalkeeper Robert Kouwe stranded, Hebert's curling, looping shot from the right bent just wide.
Sever made no mistake three minutes later, finishing a move began by Anthony Baumann, who slid a well-weighted ball into the path of Brian Steel down the right. Steel took the ball on, and crossed low across the top of the Tigers' 6-yard box, giving Sever an easy finish.
Steel could have given the Terrapins the win twice late, as he shot wide on a low cross by Sever under pressure from Anderson, and then didn't make clean contact on a header from a Baumann free kick, leaving the teams tied.
