TAMPA - A 30-9 start through the first 8:30 led the University of South Florida women's basketball team to a 100-41 victory against Central Connecticut in its regular-season opener Saturday in the USF Shootout at the Sun Dome.
The Bulls will face Loyola (Md.) College in the championship game today at 2 p.m. Loyola had a 78-69 win against Harvard, which will play Central Connecticut at noon today in the consolation game.
USF shot 56.8 percent (21 of 37) from the field in the first half en route to a commanding 53-18 halftime lead. The Bulls were led by Alexis Givands and Janae Stokes, who each had 20 points. Jasmine Wynne had 15 points and Melissa Dalembert added 13 off the bench. Brittany Denson paced USF with nine rebounds.
