TAMPA - An 18-year-old woman is being held on $4,000 bail today after trying to buy gold jewelry with fake $50 bills, police said.
Brehanna Davis, of Gibsonton, is charged with felony possession of 10 or more counterfeit bills and felony uttering a forged bill, jail records show. She was booked into the Orient Road Jail about 2:50 p.m. today.
According to an affidavit, Davis was shopping at 2241 E. Hillsborough Ave. about 1:24 p.m. today when she tried to purchase $180 in gold jewelry using four counterfeit $50 bills.
When the sales clerk confronted Davis about the fake money, Davis produced seven additional fake bills, the affidavit states.
The affidavit had no details about the quality of the counterfeit money or how it was made.
