TAMPA - Sequence had a rough Sunday morning patrolling the streets of Ybor City.
The Tampa Police Department horse had a leg grabbed, was struck by two women and later was harassed or intimidated by another person, police say.
About 3:20 a.m. Sunday at 17th Street and Seventh Avenue, Alecia Sushiani Roberts grabbed Sequence's left rear leg, a criminal arrest affidavit states. Officer Will Wagner, who has spent one year on mounted patrol, turned Sequence around, trying to get Roberts to stop. Roberts went west on Eighth Avenue. Wagner told Roberts and another woman, Trecia K. Roberts, to stop. Neither did.
Alecia and Trecia Roberts, who are related and are 19-year-old Tampa residents, began striking Sequence and the officer, the affidavit states.
Sequence and Wagner were not seriously injured.
About the same time, Jonathan Garcia began intimidating or harassing Sequence and ran away after an officer told him to stop, according to the affidavit. He was arrested a few minutes later.
Alecia and Trecia Roberts were charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and offenses against a police animal. Their bail was set at $2,500 each. They have since been released from jail.
Garcia, 20, of Tampa, was charged with harassing or intimidating a police animal and resisting arrest without violence. He remained in Orient Road Jail today. His bail was set at $750.
Sequence is 18 and has been with the department since May 2000. Prior to joining the force, he was a reserve mounted horse for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
"He's been in all of the police Olympics, he's won gold and silver medals," police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said in an e-mail to The Tampa Tribune.
