TAMPA - Ybor City leaders today decided to keep the familiar name of historic Seventh Avenue: "La Setima."
"Setima" is a colloquialism from the early 20th century when Spaniards, Italians and Cubans lived in Ybor City.
Some people wanted to rename the road "La Septima," which they said is the correct spelling for "seventh" in Spanish.
But the Ybor City Community Development Corp. sided with those who favored keeping "La Setima."
The people who supported the spelling noted it is part of the community's history and identity and maintained it is an accepted spelling for "seventh" in Spain.
