For the third consecutive season, the No. 6 ranked Hillsborough Community College women's volleyball team will compete for a national title when the Hawks travel to Iowa for the NJCAA Division I National Championships. The 16-team tournament will be held at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Thursday through Saturday.
HCC (33-7) earned the No. 8 seed in the tournament and will play No. 9 Frank Phillips College (Tex.) in the first round.
"In 2006, we were a bit overwhelmed by the experience," HCC coach Gary Larkin said. "This time we expected to be there and understand what it takes to advance. Our trip to (Iowa Western College) on the first weekend of the season was meant to acclimate our team to the venue and area. Let's see if it pays off."
