TAMPA - A Mexican citizen who pleaded guilty to one count of illegal re-entry into the United States after being deported was sentenced today to five years in prison, prosecutors say.
After his prison term, Eduardo Fuentes-Villafranco, 30, will have three years of supervised release.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents learned on Feb. 21 that Fuentes-Villafranco had been arrested on state charges and was in Orient Road Jail, according to court documents.
Agents learned that Fuentes-Villafranco had been deported from the United States at least four times and had been convicted on the same federal charge of re-entry without authorization, prosecutors say.
Fuentes-Villafranco pleaded guilty to the second charge of unauthorized re-entry on Sept. 2.
