The poor economy continued to slice into Florida's mainstay tourism industry as travel into the state declined by 3.2 percent to 19.8 million visitors, the state's tourism agency reported Monday.
Preliminary estimates show travel to the state decreasing, Tallahassee-based Visit Florida reported.
"Clearly the combined efforts of high gas prices, hurricane activity and a softening economy have impacted tourism negatively for the third quarter," Richard Goldman, chairman of Visit Florida's board of directors, says in a written statement.
