TAMPA - Hundreds attended the funeral this morning of a popular Plant High School senior who was killed in wreck during the weekend.
The death of Allyson Faulk has resulted in an outpouring of grief in the South Tampa community the 17-year-old called home. Young and old streamed into Christ the King Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. service that lasted an hour.
The Faulk family asked that the service remain private.
At a Sunday morning Mass at Christ the King, Monsignor Desmond Daly talked about the teen's death. Her family has been part of the church for years.
Faulk lost control of a Ford Expedition about 6:30 p.m. Friday while driving north on Interstate 75 near Gainesville. The Expedition hit several trees and caught fire, killing Faulk and injuring the three friends riding with her: Lizzy Mischo, 18, Kristen Hurst, 17, and Karlyn McKell, 17.
The girls were heading to Tallahassee to watch a Florida State University football game.
The Faulk family asked that any memorial donations be made to the Plant High School Zeta service club or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Center, 5959 Central Ave., No. 202, St. Petersburg FL 33710.
