Hugh Jackman has been named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive for 2008 — just a week before his epic movie "Australia" hits theaters next Wednesday.

Coincidence? It's not that the strapping 6-foot-2 man from Sydney is a bad choice. The timing just seems a bit hinky.

Or maybe Brad Pitt was too busy with daddy duty to pose for a photo.

In the magazine hitting newsstands Friday, the 12-year married father of two is called a triple threat — a man who can sing, dance and wield a weapon.

"Australia" co-star Nicole Kidman says, "Women's jaws drop when Hugh walks into a room."

Also-rans listed in the issue include: Daniel Craig ("Quantum of Solace"), Robert Pattinson ("Twilight"), Jon Hamm ("Mad Men"), Javier Bardem ("No Country for Old Men"), Blair Underwood ("Dirty Sexy Money") and Zac Efron ("High School Musical 3").
