Zephyrhills senior Brandi Mira has picked up where she left off last season. The forward has 12 goals in the Bulldogs' first six games after scoring 26 last season. Zephyrhills is 5-0-1.
You're off to a great start this season, individually and as a team. What's the difference from last season?
Probably our defense. We're playing much better defense. We have girls actually motivated to win. And also a coach who motivates us.
You mentioned your coach, who also is your dad Mike Mira. What has it been like playing for your dad?
It's hard. He's very tough, especially on me. It's the first time he's ever coached me. He's coached for 20 years but it's the first time he's coached me. It's all right.
What kind of goals do you have for the team this season?
Definitely less goals scored against and to work as a team. Our slogan is 11=1, to use some Rays manager Joe Maddon math.
Are you surprised with your early success?
No. We had a good end-of-season last year. Our offense was really good. Midfielder Laurren McLeod 12 assists this season passes the ball really well.
What about personal goals this season?
I don't think a lot about personal goals. I would like to keep myself up in scoring.
