ST. PETERSBURG - A 50-year-old housekeeper suspected of stealing from elderly clients was arrested today after a sting in which marked bills were placed at a customer's home, Gulfport police said.
Pamela Jean Ewing of St. Petersburg was charged with theft, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, Lt. Robert Vincent says in a written statement.
One of Ewing's clients at Town Shores retirement community in Gulfport suspected Ewing had taken cash and belongings from her home and contacted police, Vincent said. Investigators set up a sting at the woman's home before the next scheduled cleaning, Vincent said.
After the cleaning today, detectives called the client to see whether the marked bills were gone, Vincent said. She said they were, so police stopped Ewing and searched her. They found the marked bills and several credit cards that belong to other clients, Vincent said.
They also found marijuana and illegal prescription drugs, Vincent said.
