A 39-year-old Zephyrhills man died Thursday night after his motorcycle crashed into a pickup truck on State Road 54 near Evans Street in Zephyrhills, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Michael L. Herron, of Zephyrhills, died at the scene, troopers say.
This is what happened about 5:45 p.m., according to the highway patrol:
A 1998 Dodge pickup truck driven by Michael J. Deveau was stopped and waiting to turn left on to S.R. 54 from the entrance of A Car Lot, 36911 S.R. 54. Herron was going east on S.R. 54 and approaching Evans Street when Deveau turned into the path of Herron's 1999 Honda motorcycle.
The motorcycle struck the driver's side of the pickup and flipped. Herron was thrown off the bike. The impact sent both vehicles crashing into a GMC sport utility vehicle driven by Dennis Willey of Zephyrhills.
Willey and a passenger were not hurt. Deveau had minor injuries.
The highway was closed for more than three hours as troopers investigated and cleared the scene. The crash is still under investigation.
