TAMPA - University of South Florida senior Carlton Williams will make his first career start at linebacker when the Bulls play Connecticut on Sunday, USF defensive coordinator Wally Burnham said.

Williams, who has started seven games at strong safety and three games this season at nickel back, will start at strongside linebacker, with senior Tyrone McKenzie moving from strongside to weakside linebacker. Junior Kion Wilson will remain at middle linebacker.

Williams has 44 career starts and leads the Bulls with three interceptions this season.

ODDS AND ENDS: Mike Griffith, the University of Tennessee's basketball beat writer for the Knoxville-News Sentinel, wrote in his blog that Jim Leavitt "can be added to the list of candidates" to replace UT coach Phil Fulmer. Griffith's blog said Cincinnati's Brian Kelly is the leading candidate, according to a source inside the UT football program. ... USF QB Matt Grothe is expected to return to practice today, USF offensive coordinator Greg Gregory said. Grothe suffered a sprained ankle against Rutgers and did not practice Tuesday or Wednesday.
